Basic Dental Hygiene

Published on

This year I truly realized that I am in the minority of the world when it comes to certain areas.  I am from the United States and I have discovered that the majority of people across the world do not subscribe to the intense routine of dental hygiene as Americans do.  That is a realization I have come to after talking to many different people in lots of different countries across the world. This led me to wonder if they truly dislike caring for their teeth or are in some cases unable to use regular products that the United States market has in great supply.  I just want to go over some of the basics and let those who have not grown up with our knowledge and routine to get to a place to keep their teeth healthy.

There are lots of places to start and I think the most basic is to eat healthy food and drink healthy drinks.  This is the best way to take care of your teeth and that is to not put damaging substances against them constantly that erode your dental health.  Some things that you will need to try and stay away from are sugar based foods and drinks.  Sugar is known to erode teeth and cause lots of other issues in your mouth.  Try and stay away from candy and cookies that are sticky or can constantly put sugar in your mouth to stay for a long time.  So a great way to get away from that is to drink water.  Water hydrates and allows you to keep your mouth from drying out.  This is a great start to being healthy.

Brushing your teeth in the morning and night is also a great habit to start. This puts protection on your teeth through the day and night and can keep those damaging substances that may still be in your mouth a barrier to protect your tooth enamel.  It is a great way to get all those plaque and tartar causing substances away from your teeth. This is the basics for dental hygiene.

Flossing is also a big part of making sure all those food particles are away from your teeth.  If you are able to floss once a day it is an amazing way to keep your mouth safe.  Those particles can erode your teeth and by flossing you can avoid going to the dentists or living with some bad dental problems.  So stay safe and enjoy the basics of dental hygiene!
